THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MINISTRY
TO THE ARMED FORCES
POLICY STATEMENT
| DATE: |
DECEMBER 2003 |
POLICY
NUMBER: |
11 |
| SUBJECT: |
Endorsers or Assistant/Deputy Endorsers Shall Not
Hold An Endorsement from DOD |
Endorsing
chaplains for military service (active duty, Reserve,
National Guard) and approving theological students
for chaplain candidate programs, is a process which
implies a relationship of mutual trust between religious
endorsing bodies and the Department of Defense. Religious
bodies endorse persons they deem qualified to represent
them, and the military services accept those best
qualified from a variety of faith groups to meet assessed
needs of military personnel and their families.
In
order to maintain this trust, and to avoid the possibility
of a conflict of interest, it is NCMAF’s policy
that an endorser or an Assistant/Deputy endorser shall
not hold an endorsement within the Department of Defense.
